About Us

Local Yorkshire girl, Harri Scott, met a bearded Nottingham Forest fan, Ed Allen from Peterborough whilst travelling in Australia. Ed, a talented chef, was working in one of Sydney’s best restaurants. They moved to Brisbane where Ed got a job in one of Brisbane’s finest eateries whilst Harri balanced her time between managing a restaurant during the evenings and weekends and working at a nationwide law firm. On returning to the UK, Ed took a position at the Michelin starred Pipe and Glass at South Dalton whilst Harri obtained a law degree.

The couple have always wanted to run their own pub/restaurant and this is their first venture. Ed has progressed through the kitchen and is excited to be taking on a new enterprise in Stillington where Harri worked when she was 15. Harri quickly realised that she preferred working in the hospitality industry to working in the legal profession and has been gaining experience working in a variety of catering establishments including York Racecourse, Park Restaurant and the Crown Inn at Roecliffe. They look forward to welcoming you to the newly refurbished Bay Tree.

The Chef

Ed grew up on a farm in Cambridgeshire and from an early age realised that he wanted to be a Chef when he got a potwash job at the age of 14. He attended Peterborough Regional College and then attained a degree in Culinary Arts Management from University College Birmingham. During this time he had worked in a 2 rosette hotel and in a 5 star resort in America.

After University Ed went to work at the Michelin starred Crown at Whitebrook in Wales which added valuable experience and michelin training to his background. Then Australia loomed, Ed worked at Pier in Sydney a former top 100 best restaurant in the World and then Alchemy in Brisbane, both of which had Australias version of Michelin stars.

After meeting Harriet, Ed then moved to Yorkshire and worked at the Pipe and Glass. Then after a stint as Sous at the Pheasant in Harome, he took his first Head Chef job at the Drovers Arms in Skipwith.

Now after finding his feet as a Head Chef and honing his own style Ed is finally starting his own venture at the Bay Tree and is looking forward to very exciting times ahead!!

The Gin Lady

Since taking over the Bay Tree, Harri has transformed this Country Pub into a Gin Lovers Paradise. Starting with a mere 8 Gins she has increased her collection to over 100 and is still going. What started as a tradition of the Scott Family having a Gin whenever the clock struck six cleariy passed through generations onto Harri and her small collection has ended up turning this pub into a destination for Gin Enthusiasts across the North.

Traditional Gin and Tonic has long since evolved; we offer a variety of different fruit, citrus, herb and spice garnishes, alongside a choice of mixers including the entire Fever Tree Range. With such a vast collection of Gin there is one to suit every palate, even those who claim to not like Gin have been converted. Is it Gin O’Clock Yet?
